Sorry mama, I failed you

I never shared this story publicly before,

But my heart is beating, and I feel like writing my thoughts out loud to the void of this digital paper.

(So please be gentle).

I've been learning and teaching ma mom some religious principles about Islam these last couple of months.

(FYI: Yes, I am a proud Muslim)

And it's not all rains and rainbows.

I was never challenged so hard in my digital teaching career like I am now!

Dude, my mom is ruthless.

She's like me! Or I'm like her?...

Stubborn,
Misfit,
Acts quick,
If she doesn't like to hear it, She doesn't allow it.
Her house, her rules.
Shoes? At the front door.
Everything in control.

(Talking about the Algerian mom, anybody?)

I mean, cracking the code is still a work in progress,

But man this is so harder than I thought.

From a 20-min lesson about how to pray,

To a 2 hour back-and-fourth argument about:

  • TV channels
  • Politics
  • The war in Gaza
  • The guy who fixes the air condition?

(You got what you asked for, Amine!) lol

Anyhoos,

Why I'm I telling you this? Do I hate mom?

OFC not!

My mom is amazing.

And I love her without a breath of a doubt.

Actually, she's a great teacher (not like me!).

She is subconsciously teaching me how to get better at my job by:

  • Putting myself in her shoes
  • Being truly empathetic (not just in words)
  • Being patient (good things takes time)
  • Knowing that trust takes time to build. (so does skill and knowledge)
  • Doing better every single day (little changes can make the world of a difference)

The moral of the story is this:

Anyone can claim to be a good teacher,

A good businessman,

A good service / product.

Until they are proven not to!

You'll never know how incompetent you are,

Until your worse customer paint that picture for you.

Loud and clear.

I had this giant ego in the back of my head saying:

“I'm a great teacher !
I'm better than all the professors who taught me at Uni”

(Sorry Marc)

And boyyyyy, I was humbled.

By the one and only:

Mamacita.

So, here's the great finally:

If you want to be a great teacher, teach your mom.

Or worse, your wife.

(Can't speak from experience though,

Still looking for madame mystery... or I'm I?)

Misfit Since 1998

Today's email is special ! This misfit turned 26 years old, 3 days ago... And I usually do some form of a community launch, reunion, or public event to celebrate this with you. But as I'm getting older and life's getting harder, Birthday events are no longer my thing. Nor did anyone remember. (Besides you Guylaine ofc! You're a G) Yet I do miss my community and I still believe it will have a bright future. As a matter of fact, I've been getting an overwhelming positive flow of emails in the...

Dont make my stupid mistakes

You said keep it real, keep it you. So tonight, I want to share with you 5 lessons I learned about The pain of life, friendship, and entrepreneurship. 1. True friends are rare, most are situationships When I was building the Misfit Way community, Everyone was like “go Amine”, “you rock amine”, “we support you amine”. But when I needed support the most? It's gone. (Almost) no one to be found. Most people root for you only when you're on the top. But when you are at rock bottom, They move on to...
