To recap this year in the style of Tim Ferriss,

Here are 5-bullets to sum up 2024 for me.

Social Media

LinkedIn was a drug.

I lived and breathed that social platform.

I was too dependent on it.

One source of traffic.

One (personal) brand.

One boxed identity.

That meant,

If I win, I win big; If I lose, I lose hard.

When I lost my account,

I lost everything...

But I learned.

- I learned to disappear for a while

- I learned to sit and write

- I learned to disconnect (from fast dopamine)

- I learned to read, and make time to read

- I learned to value what I have

- I learned to tame my brain

- I learned to nurture the few people who stuck around

I Learned digital resilience

(Which will be a topic for another day)

Friendship

I had more time to make real friends.

Real people with no hidden intentions.

No hidden agendas.

Just real brotherhood all around.

It's hard to do that on the internet, you know.

So maybe it's time for you too to get out there and start meeting real people!

Religion

I connected deeply to my root cause of existence:

To be a servant of Allah.

Call it “purpose” if you will.

But this drives everything else.

I have developed a strong faith with the one above.

And now all my decisions are up and center around that.

It's my guiding compass.

Hope you can find yours!

Family

Always a work in progress.

The older I get, the stronger the bond I have with my mom.

She's the only family I have.

No one else matters.

It's not perfect, by all means.

Just 5 mins ago, we had a fight around something silly:

I guess you wanna know,

She took my branded clothes that I use as decoration and motivation for my room (yeah the one I work in, the one I'm writing this on) to wash them without asking permission.

And now she ruined one of the T-shirts, and she's acting all bossy as if It's not her fault.

Figured? Lol

Toxic dynamic sometimes.

But I think that's how it's supposed to work.

The people you love the most are the ones you end up fighting the most? Right?

Business

A constant war with one's self.

This year, I lost a lot of battles.

I had to take a break on “momentum”.

I had to shift the way I think about work.

I had to draw boundaries to live the life I want.

That meant,

I had to redesign my business to fit my lifestyle:

  • 4h work days
  • Few clients
  • No management/boss
  • Comfortable in unexpectedness
  • No chance for burnout

From these rules of constraint,

I started drawing how the business should be.

Onward!

Till next time,

Your friend ~

Misfit Since 1998

Today's email is special ! This misfit turned 26 years old, 3 days ago... And I usually do some form of a community launch, reunion, or public event to celebrate this with you. But as I'm getting older and life's getting harder, Birthday events are no longer my thing. Nor did anyone remember. (Besides you Guylaine ofc! You're a G) Yet I do miss my community and I still believe it will have a bright future. As a matter of fact, I've been getting an overwhelming positive flow of emails in the...

Dont make my stupid mistakes

You said keep it real, keep it you. So tonight, I want to share with you 5 lessons I learned about The pain of life, friendship, and entrepreneurship. 1. True friends are rare, most are situationships When I was building the Misfit Way community, Everyone was like “go Amine”, “you rock amine”, “we support you amine”. But when I needed support the most? It's gone. (Almost) no one to be found. Most people root for you only when you're on the top. But when you are at rock bottom, They move on to...
